Backing Up: A New iPad Doesn’t Mean You Have to Start Over

Many of you hesitate to purchase new iPads because you feel you will have to start everything in your apps all over again. However Backing Up your old iPad and Restoring it to a new one can make it all a very simple task.

Here is a link to Backing Up your current iPad. At the bottom it tells you how to restore it to your new iPad. At the bottom on the article there is a link on Restoring it. I have backed up my old iPad twice and restored it to a new iPad and never lost any data in my game. Everything was exactly where it was with Friends, Quests and Collections.

With the new iOS 11 coming there are only certain devices that will be able to be upgraded. I asked GI if they were going to change to the 64 bit application that will require the new iOS they said not at this time. However, from what I read on the Apple websites the devices not using the new iOS 11 will be slower. So, your game may slow down. Or maybe it will stay at the speed it’s at now. It is scheduled to Launch on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

There are some applications that will require iOS 11 and I will see if I can find the list and post a link.

Until then, go ahead and buy that new iPad and go through the process of backing up and restoring to keep everything you have on your current iPad but work on a much faster device. I can’t get over the difference in how fast Mystery Manor in on Ken’s iPad Pro than it is on my iPad Air! Of course it doesn’t do anything for my game to go faster if I just don’t have the time to play and visit friends. I am sorry I am behind.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I have a new iPad Air that i was going to transfer my stuff to, hence buying the cloud space, which of course didn’t work.:(

Last week my Ipad 2 crashed and said I needed to do an update, which I think was a patch or something because I was already at the latest update. I did it anyways and guess what, it wiped my whole ipad and everything on it. I had bought 50g of space on icloud to backup the ipad and when i went there it said it was empty, no backup. I was on the phone with Apple for most of a whole day trying to fix it. So far nothing has worked. I have an external hard drive that I had backed up to, but it is quite a few months old. But I can’t get itunes to recognize it, so they told me to go buy a new hard drive and try and transfer from the old to the new drive. I can’t see spending $150 for their mistake right now. If i can get the backup to work will GI be able to restore my game? Do I need my friend code? If I do I’m probably screwed. I am so pissed I have been playing since the day the game started, basically the only one I played. Also will I have disappeared from my friends games, I don’t want them to think I just stopped playing for no reason. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Ok, is your iPad working now? If you have to you can start a new game. Play past the tutorial and then open a ticket with GI and tell them about your lost game. If you don’t know your friend code give them your game Nickname and Level. Plus the name of your Guild if you were in one. They will do what they can to find your game and send you a restore window.

Did Apple give you any advice on why your backup wouldn’t be in the Cloud if you were set to backing up there? Here’s a problem solving link for Restoring that may help.

And here’s a link to Locate your iCloud backup.

Just in case the Apple reps didn’t go through this with you.

Is there someone in a Guild or anything you’d like me to get a message to?

      Renee

The ipad is working now, but it is completely empty so I am using my iPad Pro instead. I will start a new game reluctantly, I hope I have the stamina. I don’t know my friend code off hand, I know I made a note of it, I just hope I didn’t do it on my old ipad.I wasn’t in a guild. I will send GI a ticket once I get started again.
No advice on the cloud from apple, just that it wasn’t there. I had a friend who had the same thing happen with his backup in the cloud, but they found his, they just couldn’t get it back on his computer though. I will try the advice you have given me above to see if any helps.
I had 342 friends, I don’t know what to do about them.

I had the same problem and my game was restored quickly. In fact, GI was answering emails back and forth while I waited. I had a # off dates to choose from for restoral. I did have to repeat a couple of quests but all friends were restored. Good luck.

          Thanks, fingers crossed

Had an iPad Air 2. Just bought a new iPad and everything transferred but my game. Back to square one. I backed everything up to iCloud twice just before I made the transfer. I was at level 428. I’m going to open a ticket with GI but the site is currently down for maintenance. I doubt it can be restored and have no intention of starting over. I’m not at all surprised it didn’t transfer. Really didn’t expect it too. Still, I’m disappointed. Been playing for four years.

I’ve never used iCloud to back up and restore my device. I tried to see more about doing it but had no luck. When I tap on my name at the very top in my settings it shows apps that use the cloud but nothing on apps that back up. Reading the article indicates your entire iPad will back up. As long as you have enough space. You get 5 GB free and have to pay for more. If you have more than 5 GB on your old iPad you may have to buy extra space. Are there other games you play or anything else that didn’t keep progress? Are you near an Apple store for the Genius Bar to help. Or even call their customer support. They are very helpful and will walk you through everything.

I got a message that iCloud had successfully completed back both times. I had also backed it up on my PC a week or more ago but I wasn’t able to do that today. I’ve been having trouble with my laptop and wasn’t even sure it was backing up. Today I got error msgs saying I needed to remover iturnes and apple Mobile support and download again. I tried and tried to no avail. I guess it was meant to be. I always thought of I switched iPads this would happen. I’m tired of the game anyway but I will miss my friends. It was the only reason I continued playing. 😢 I did think I’d report it it GI but they’re still saying unavailable.

I just finished transferring to a new iPad. Much easier than years ago. I backed up to iTunes, then restored the new one from that back up. Everything works. Yeah!

    MM_Admin

Congrats on the new iPad! Which one did you get?

      🐸frogger

9.7” iPad, not Pro or mini. Gifting is much faster 😄

Did you have to notify GI about your change in ipad? Or did you just restore to your new one and play immediately. I

    MM_Admin

No, I never notified them. With a backup and restore it just picks up where it left off. But don’t play the game on your old iPad inbetween the two.

I’ve been running the iOS 11 beta version for the past couple months and haven’t noticed any speed difference on my iPad Pro while playing MM. The game ran smoothly.

    MM_Admin

Yes, I think people with an iPad older than the iPad Air may experience slow downs in the future. It was just something I read on the Apple site. I will update mine tomorrow but am feeling like I will need to learn new stuff!

If GI doesn’t do anything different to their game releases there may not be a difference. But I’m sure they will keep up with technology and older iPads will start becoming obsolete for many apps.
